First Custom Brush
So this is my very first, albeit humble attempt at making a brush. It was kind of rushed as I was using a friends lathe and shop. The finish has some streaks and didn't come out mirror like I had hoped but as I said this is only my first attempt. It will be a Christmas gift for my Italian father in law who still shaves with a 20yr old omega drug store boar brush that has seen much much much better days. I intentionally set the knot fairly low to give it a little more backbone. Went for kind of a Persian jar shape handle.
20mm silvertip knot from the golden nib.
Pau Rosa handle turned by hand on a machine lathe with files then sand paper.
Attempted "CA finish"
Marine epoxy to set the know in the handle.
Going to test it out tomorrow or the day after.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I plan to make many more when I finally get my shop set up with lathe and drill press.

Thanked: 116Patrick, I think you need to bring down two of these to the Valley for testing purposes. You know Matt and I would provide a fair and unbiased writeup

Nice brush. I agree with Hirlau: I hope someday to have the talent to make my own brush. You know Italians, they can be stubborn and set in their ways. If your father-in-law decides to stick with his boar brush you can send it down south to me. I know for a fact I would appreciate you effort!
