almost done with it .!!
well i started sanding down a brush a while back .
i changed the brush around a lot , removed some of the old design , rounded the but of the handle a bit and all i need now is to place an order for a knot and put it in .. im not sure if i wanna go with a black badger or silver tip yet but i dont have either and plan on getting both at some point .. here it is so far ..

Thanked: 13245There is something almost Zen like when you restore one and put them back into service..
Honestly I just made myself one recently and used a Pure Black Badger knot, I am pretty impressed with the "scritchiness" but that is all personal :P

Wow looks great! Is that the same handle? Good luck whit your choice of knot type. (Imo a nice silvertip fits nice by the dark handle)

Thanked: 1184Looks good buddy. Flip a coin. Either way bringing one back to life is rewarding in itself. Just try to order a non stinky one .
You get that poly At Home Depot ? I just bought 3 gallons of it on clearance for 11 bucks a gallon. Now I need to buy a barn.Last edited by 10Pups; 01-03-2013 at 12:19 AM.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

i have cans off it layin around along with cans and cans of stain .. when i was growing up i was fortunate enough to have table saw , ban saw , belt sanders , drill presses , lathe , and about every other wood working machine you could imagine so i/we always had a project .. as my hobbys changed my dad got rid of bout everything but the drill press / belt sanders , so now that i want it all again to make scales and stuff , or the lathe for brush handles , im starting out with just a ton of stain ...lol..

i just ordered the pure black badger , something bout the look of the black badger that has always drawn me to it .. hopefully i like the way it works and feels better or equal to the way i like the look ..lol..
finished product pics after knot arrives .., i needed a 19-20mm knot and smallest black i found was 22 so ill have to drill , re-stain and finish the top half again ..

Thanked: 13245Just a thought here
But I am thinking that you should be able to just re-drill, if yer careful and set the knot, the epoxy (I am assuming here) will seal the inside anyway..
You have to decide if that is possible as the brush is in your hands

i think i will just try to wiggle the 3/4 speed bore ( hole now is just over 3/4 from doing that already, cause it was the closest and i used it to take out the old knot ) or get in there with the dremmel and kinda bore it out .. i was just kinda looking at the worst case scenario , if i remember the 22mm is = to a 7/8 ( without the conversion chart in front of me ) and the 7/8 bit will hit the lip/ring around the hole just a tad bit on both sides , but actually outside of the hole if i have to re drill it , i figured if i had to touch it up it wouldn't be that much ... we shall see though as the mail cant bring my knot fast enough ...lol ...
