    Thanks Glen . The vise trick worked great. It just fell out the second crimp. The inside looked like it was filled with Bondo. I used a Dremmel sanding drum at first but a pointed grinding stone worked the best. I only lowered it about an 1/8" more than the boar at about a 1/2" total.

    gooser, this is an M3 DD brush with a 24mm Golden Nib black badger. I just measured the inside edge of the metal with calipers. I have a few more of these that are going to get new knots soon.
