What's the best way to replace this knot ?

I am hoping to find the best advice for replacing a knot on an old DD brush, Best way to take out the old one. Best glue for the new one. I have some new Gorilla epoxy that is clear.

The pic tells a lot :<0)



The original has an almost hollow center. I think I have measured this right but I am not sure what is inside, like how deep etc. I don't want to destroy it because I want to measure it when it's out.The new knot may be slightly bigger but then the old one is missing a lot of it's guts. Hard to judge. I got the knot to make a new handle but I need to use this old one anyhow.

thats perfect , as i grabbed one of those ones just like that the other day and wanted to replace the knot !!!

I don't know the Gorilla glue clear epoxy - I have only worked with the Gorilla brown. The brown expands way too much for a brush.
If you have used the clear before, and it doesn't expand that will work well.

Otherwise I would go with a clear two part epoxy. That's what I used. Seal the socket area up with it, but dont let it squish out onto the hair knot.

I looked at the left "brush" and thought that was the strangest brush handle I've ever seen... Engineer style!

Thanks Glen . The vise trick worked great. It just fell out the second crimp. The inside looked like it was filled with Bondo. I used a Dremmel sanding drum at first but a pointed grinding stone worked the best. I only lowered it about an 1/8" more than the boar at about a 1/2" total.



gooser, this is an M3 DD brush with a 24mm Golden Nib black badger. I just measured the inside edge of the metal with calipers. I have a few more of these that are going to get new knots soon.

After seeing that, I want to try something like it. I'm going to keep my eye out for old brushes that have good handles on them.

Well it sure felt good this morning !
Thanks Glen, I got the black badger idea from one of your creations as I recall. I always liked black and chrome stuff.
Hirlau you can get a bunch on the bay.
And Lemur that gear was a chunk of aluminum plate I cut out with a band saw,filed and polished for weeks. I made it into a pen holder for my father on his birthday when I was 16 in shop class. I forgot about it until he passed. A friend of his brought it to me and said it was on his desk for 30 some years. I may turn it into a razor stand for pictures or the base of a brush holder.
