Thread: Custom Father's Day Gifts

I believe the best gifts are made from the heart or hands instead of purchased, so I made these brushes and bowls as Father's Day gifts for my father and brother. They both use the Body Shop's Maca Root Shaving Cream and love it. I find the cream incredible; however, we all used the shaving cream by applying it to our face with our hands...that is, until I recently began wet shaving. I would have never believed you could make so much lather with such a little amount of the shaving cream and that it would be so much slicker. I'd like to share the experience with those men in my life who have influenced me in such positive ways and who would appreciate this type of gift.

For my father, a retired Army officer from Texas nothing would have been more appropriate than a classy 24mm finest badger bulb brush made from mesquite and meticulously finished in a phenolic varnish, rubbed out to a satin sheen:



For my brother, an F-16 pilot with refined wit and humor, a 22mm super badger fan in walnut burl finished in a polyurethane varnish rubbed out to a satin sheen:

Mesquite wood is very attractive. You did a great job for your family members. Mesquite also makes a fine gunstock.

Thanks for the kind compliments...when I was thinking of a wood that portrayed my father, I thought of red oak or hornbeam, then I saw some mesquite and that was it...he's a big, weathered, wise mesquite tree!
