This is probebley one of the largest pces of Lignum Vitae Guaiacum Officinale in the U.S. 37 lbs
I have a few brush handles to make

Pixel,,,what is some sources of this wood, other than the tree itself?
What did they use to make with this wood?
I can keep my eye out for some.

John, the wood can no longer be imported into The U.S.The source for the real deal is Africa.What did they use to make this wood? mother nature made this wood.Do keep an eye out,The stuff is becoming unobtainium.

Orig fence posts actually.The wood is 40% oil by wgt.Is still used today to make bearings for hydroelectric dam shafts,will last 50 yrs under water.
In ship building it is used for prop shaft bearings in salt water,Is no metal substitutes that will work as well as this wood.imagine that.

I'm pretty good at finding things, so I wanted to know what to look out for.

Looks to me like the rectangular shape may yield a slab or two for some scales? What's the chances of that happening?

I'd love to scale my favorite Dbl Duck with some....

Breakin it down,The grain will start to pop when the oils start to oxidize.

Love to have a brush from all LV wood. Can't wait to see finished product.
