Well, finished my first shave (but not till before I read the last two posts) so I didn't follow your advice . Thought the micromatic was cool looking so i tried that first, seemed to do a good job without any tugging but did leave a burning sensation after i was done. Good to know about the angle Bob, i wasn't sure exactly what angle to use.
For some reason when i switch from a straight to another type of razor it takes more concentration to remember what direction i need to go in (i have a certain order i follow) so i went against the grain before i was ready. Odd, I know.
It was suggested to me that the blades work better if they are stropped first but i don't have a handle thing to do it with so I just went for it.
Something else to look into.

Thanked: 81I find the blades tend to be harsh for the first shave or two, but then they’re very smooth and often good for 20 to 30 shaves. In the SE forum, it was suggested to join/deburr the edge with a cork, but I have yet to try it. I almost always palm strop them just before shaving, but I do the same with DEs.
