I have sold some books to used book stores and understand they have to make money but it almost an insult to me what they are willing to pay. I could have a yard sale and make more but that is not my thing. I might as well give them away and if by chance someone puts another in its place I might be introduced to something good that i would never have thought of.

You have that right. Many libraries are getting rid of their books and a lot of small bookstores are going out of business. I now buy from Alibris on line and it is cheaper than buying gas to go four miles to town. One of the great Mpls used and new book stores is full up on incoming and will take no more. Garage sales around here are really book heavy. I have a good set of bookshelves on a wall and they are full of books and series that I have come to like over the years.

Does anybody think that these devices that have ebooks on them has hurt regular book sales, new & used?

I would say it goes with out saying, that if you can download any title you want without leaving the house, or trawling through loads of second hand shops etc then why would a lot of people go to the effort. I do buy secondhand books, and my wife would not consider an e reader, she loves thr smell of books.
My mother in law in the other hand who has a very bad back uses an e reader all the time.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

I'm not sure how much they have affected regular book sales, but from what I have read about it over here, it has done so quite significantly.
For me personally, I have hardly bought a paper based book in about three or four years now, ever since I got my first Kindle.
I love the thing, and have well over 200 books on it by now.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I read in spurts, so to speak. I'll read three books in the peroid of a month, a lot for me,,,then not read one for two months. I just don't like the idea of another electronic device, having a part in my life,,,not sure if you can understand this. I like looking through old book stores & yards sales for books. I feel like I've found something nice when I find a really old book in good condition. I like finding old books with lots of pictures in them. I cannot get that feeling from a down load.
