In a nutshell, Bloom County was a *brilliant* comic that ran during the 80s, stopping in '89. It was intelligent, political, insightful, and hilarious. So the gag is that Opus (the penguin) has awoken from a 25-year slumber, and refuses to go back to his hellish world of the 80s, for the reasons he gives (all of which are still issues today). The last bit has to do with the recently-published novel by Harper Lee in which the hero of "To Kill a Mockingbird" Atticus Finch is revealed to be a racist and bigot. Or so I've heard. TKIM is my all-time favourite novel, so I'm hesitant to pick up the new one. Atticus has long been one of my heroes, and I'd quite like to keep it that way... Anyway, all the things Opus tries to avoid are still around, and his one icon has well and truly been clasted. (apologies for murdering the Greek there)
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Currently I am reading Lord of the Rings. I have already read the Hobbit, I am almost finished with LotR, and am deciding if I want to read the Simarillion or take a break and switch to another series before I go back to Middle Earth. Good books, though, a long read. I really only read when going to bed and only a few pages at that so you can imagine how long it has taken me to read the two books together.

Just finished, "The Culture Series" by Iain M. Banks, fun read, always enjoy a good sci-fi read.
Next for me is about the 7th re-read of one of my favorite books of all time - Somerset Maugham's, "The Razor's Edge".
And Orville has put me in the mind for some Heinlein....

Good point - agreed - finished watching another BBC series episode last night, series the wife and I have been watching, "Crimson Fields" about WWI field hospital. Think I may skip "The Razor's Edge" and maybe read, Faulkner's, "Soldier's Pay" again or Hemingway's, "Farewell to Arms"...some of the greatest writer of our times are from that post WWI period, especially some of the ex-pat American writers IMO.
