I think if you read his other novels you will get the same feeling. Different place, different time, his writing feels authentic. Makes me wonder how he prepared for his writing: through research, boots on the ground...?

I'm currently reading The Devil's Dictionary, Tales, and Memoirs by Ambrose Bierce. Fun stuff.

Just finished Finest Hour by Michael J. Tougias, which is the basis for a movie coming out at the end of January. It is the true story of a Coast Guard rescue off the coast of New England that was so miraculous it almost defies description. The book is short and fast moving. I always read books before I see movies which always take license with the facts to make things more visually interesting.
