    Default Opinions on Filson Clothing

Being from the south, I don't have much need for heavy winter clothing but I kind of dig Filson clothing. I would only ever get a sweater, light jacket, socks or summer clothing but still I want to know how this clothing ranks for the northern folk. It looks like high quality stuff --what ya think.

    It works.

My favorite jacket is Filson's Shelter Cloth Outfitter for all around. Zip in the Mackinaw Wool Outfitter Liner for cold days. I wear the jacket alone between 45F up to 65F, the liner only if below 50F and outside for awhile.

As a bonus all those pocket come in handy when passing thru slackers at security checks. Sometimes the guards let you by while going thru the folks that carried backpacks and briefcases.

    Default Filson

    Hi Jaegerhund,

Filson makes incredible clothing...I'm 47 years old, and still wear a Mac I got when I was 17, and it's just getting broken-in! Seriously, I have scads of North Face, Patagonia, etc, all good in their own right, but for durability & classic style, nothing beats Filson. Of course, they've been imitated by many, but I don't think most knock-offs have the quality.

For you, a Cover Cloth jacket of some type might work for damp/wet weather....a liner makes this lighter weight ideal for a range of conditions. The oiled cloth is a bit stiff at first, better suited to working outdoors than driving to the store (be careful when it's new; if you've got lighter colored seats in your car, esp cloth or real leather)

So, good luck, and write if you have questions!

ps The Moleskin shirts are bulletproof, make Chamois Cloth seem like tissue!

I'll second what everyone has said. Their clothing is bulletproof. If you buy from them you had better like it because you'll be wearing it the rest of your life. Of course their stuiff an't cheap. You get what you pay for.

Man you guys are great (tears rolling down my face). Something as obtuse as outerwear and you give me more than I can ask far. Actually, I don't think outerwear is obtuse but quite fascinating. Maybe I'll start a polyester vs wool thread. Anyway thanks again and here's to ya (virtual beer glass clank).

Don't own any Filson stuff, but I've got a Barbour jacket that's pretty nice. It's slightly insulated and waterproof, and makes a great winter jacket for Houston (our winters here are about like Scotland's spring/fall weather).

You can enjoy them in Louisiana. You just have to put up with a little heat exhaustion.

Believe it or not when it's in the 20' s F in Louisiana and the humidity is 70-80%, it's pretty darn cold. The only problem is that those day's are far and few between. But yeah, I'd have more use for the mackinaw as a food source than as an outerwear. (Ya know Louisianers will eat about anything). Take it easy,

    Justin
