Thanked: 1587Am I just Getting Old?
I was perusing my University's web pages the other day and came across a news item. It was reporting on a new Student Learning Centre building on one of our campuses which featured, among other things, a "Microsoft Tech lounge" with Xbox 360s.
For some reason this upsets me. I understand that for years universities have been a breeding ground for games and gamers, but it has always been on the students' own time and completely unsanctioned by the University. Now it seems the university is actively encouraging students to goof off while on campus.
Or am I just getting old?

Seriously - at one time someone ranted about how they now had a tv in the commence, and how disturbing that was. After all - Uni is a place to share idea's and have social intercourse, not get away from it all and veg out in front of a tv!
Sure students who are sitting in front of an xBox all day are going to fail out. Doesn't matter if that box is in their room, in the Union, or wherever. Just like kids in the past who sat in front of the tv all day and night failed out.
That said - the stress of finals and/or simply trying to get through the semester is eased with a small distraction now and again. It's healthy! You wouldn't believe how much Hearts I played while conceptualizing papers or tests lol.
We all goof off... how one generation does it compared to past generations is kind of inconsequential.David

Everything is relative. When I hear my son (who is pushing 30) listening to music he grew up with I always ask him why he's listening to the "oldies". He doesn't find it amusing.

Lol the music I listen to is really old music.
I first heard it in fallout 3. They happened to use that
music due to it was cheaper. Cause it too for someone to own it.
These good old songs are far superior to any of the new music.
