I think I saw once an Australian Rules Football player in an interview on TV. He said he didn't understand why professional American football players needed pads until he realized how big the average professional player is. Some of these guys are huge -- 6'-6" and 300 lbs. and bigger. It's amazing they don't get hurt more by just falling on each other. I mean Brian Urlacher is 6'-4" and 250 lbs and fast and athletic ---these guys wouldn't live long without pads. But yeah, Jimbo, y'all probably play water polo with salties in Australia so it must seem girly.
Hooroo,
Justin

Thanked: 1587Nah Justin, I'm only joking. Aussie rules players don't typically wear padding, but that's the nature of the game (lots of running and jumping and kicking) and the guys who play that are usually tall and light. You see a lot more padding in rugby league and rugby union - mainly shoulder pads and head gear.
I tried Gridiron (sp??) as a lad - tough game and I've got a lot of respect for anyone who's good at it.
[FYI, the junior league play water polo with salties. Seniors grease themselves up with pig fat and jump in with sharks...]
