An old postcard I picked up some time back, quite possibly based on fact...:gaah:
These seems contextually different from what Grizzley1 is referring to. In his case he is correct because if the expectation is that you give 100% of your effort then it is not possible to give more than that. In your two cases you are correct. The first being a measure of gain and the second a measure against an expectation of less than 100% of what is possible.
Is it just me or does it seem that auto-correct should more often than not be considered an oxymoron.
The Coaches and Trainers that I have known use that 110% to speak to the mental aspect of effort.
When they are trying to connect to athletes that may not have been trained in visulaztion they frame the discussion as 100% is your maximum physical effort, what we need you to do is focus on visualizing (catching that ball, clearing that bar etc.)
And yes, I know that the mind and body total is 100% of "you" -
But I've seen this 110% used to connect - when they follow up with "what do I mean by 110%?" and then "here is an exercise that i want you to try...relax and close your eyes..."
I'm not expecting 110% out of a politician, for instance, unless its going to be bad for me...
