Given we're such a multicultural group, the melting-pot of the razor world, so to speak, I thought it would be good to start a thread where people can post some of their country's/region's colloquial expressions. Might even reduce potential confusion and mix ups when reading posts, although I must say I don't think I've ever seen this happen (there was one memorable and highly amusing thread involving elbow grease a while back..., but I digress).

OK, I'll start. Here's a few Australian terms and their meaning. [Some of these may be wrong, or not uniquely Australian - apologies in advance if this is the case, and feel free to correct me if so].

Strewth - Holy Sh*t!!! . Eg: "Strewth, mate, a dingo ate my baby".

Stone the Crows - see "Strewth".

Crikey - See "Strewth" [mainly, in recent times, associated with Steve Erwin].

Tacka - child. Eg: "I was almost eaten by a dingo when I was a tacka".

G'day - Hello (I don't know you).

G'day Mate - Hello (I can't remember your name).

Barbie - BBQ.

Flat out like a lizard drinkin' - I have/have been busy.

As useful as tits on a bull - Not very useful.

Dry as a dead dingos donger - either thirsty or a lack of moisture. Eg: "Give me a Fosters, I'm as dry as a dead dingos donger".

Head like a sucked mango - Ugly.

Rough as guts - Crude, unfinished.

Alright, that's enough for now.

James.
