    Exclamation Epiphany

So I kept doctoring the image to look better and somewhere along the way I realised I could go further and doctor the image to look like how I have actually dressed as X-Man in the past! Yes I have worn some of those costumes. No, I'm not crazy. I just have a crazy sense of humour. People could never say my name when I was a kid so I quickly identified myself simply as X. Friends would often call me Doctor X or Mister X or even Professor X, but I preferred to be thought of as The Mighty Tiny X until I grew a little bigger and became X-Man.

The first actual incarnation was for a clown show in 1991. I figured I'd play off a bit of humour running through my own life and take a bit of the piss out of myself at the same time. I did a sketch where a ballerina clown and I did a tightrope act along a loooooooooooooong elastic band stretched between two chairs. I was a huge hit. The other clowns stared in amazement when I came backstage after my bit and the crowd was going wild for me. The other clowns all thought I wasn't going to be funny. Anyhow, that's why there's a red nose in the first pic.

Early the next year after graduating I moved to Edmonton to live with a couple of old friends. When I got there I discovered that they were calling themselves Power Man and Sales Man. there was of course, only one thing to do and that was create a Super Team. We changed our answering machine message to properly introduce ourselves. With the soundtrack of an old Star Trek Original Series Lp playing in the background I boldly announced to callers that they had reached The Society of Surrogate Super Heroes. Power Man was "wielder of vast electrical forces", Sales Man was "armed with his commission ray", and I, of course was empowered with my X-traordinary X-tension. Callers were instructed to leave a message about the nature of their conundrum and told that we'd respond "as soon as super-humanly possible". That answering machine message actually got me a job too.

Two years later I made the second costume, the red one, as an All Hallows Eve challenge in Calgary. Got the whole thing for about $20 at the second hand store. Yeah, I won. I wore it again down the street in Toronto for Halloween the following year and there was this great moment when I rounded the corner (onto King Street from Spadina Avenue I think it was) and there was this little girl, about 8 or 9 years old holding her mother's hand right there as we rounded. She looked me up and down and couldn't take her eyes off me as we passed. With her head turned right around and walking in the opposite direction I heard her say, "Mom, look. It's X-Man!" like she'd heard about me or something. The cape has a white hash mark and a big red 'X' on the back and it flows in the breeze wonderfully. I wore it as a Halloween costume again in 1999 and encouraged my wife to dress up like me. That's when she became The Validator.

Since that time I've dressed a little more incognito, reminiscent of The Shadow. I can do so on a daily basis and not look out of place, but still I enjoy a little bit of my own personal practical joke.

I've been having some fun with the Heromachine recently and I'm ready to reveal some new duds. What do you think?

I like this one a lot - faceless and mysterious, and the stance gives off an aura of controlled power, IMHO.

Wow - very good indeed Scrap! Although, I've got to say he looks a bit shaggy about the chin area - something I'm guessing the real Xman would never allow! (I know, it's just the resolution of the image...)

You should get bored more often mate

I hope not. I got in a bit of trouble for that. I had to futz about with the girl's CoH account to make that picture.

Normal sized head. It just looks small when planted on that ripped physique.
