Craftsman Hatchet
I few weeks ago I found a Craftsman hatchet at an antique store for $25.00. She needed a little polishing & someone prior had used a rough file to hone her. I used a dual grit Carborundum puck, a palm size piece of unknown origin slate, about 3000 grit & an old beat up Swaty to remove the marks & put a working edge, so to speak, on her.
Thanks for looking,
Hirlau

Not sure, I don't know how to tell the difference in woods,,,,
I can tell the difference in some live trees in the woods, but not once it hits the saw mill.

I'm an "Arm-Chair Lumberjack",,I live in a condo,,,I could got to work on my old sofa, it's got a lot of wood in it.
I buy this stuff (axes & hatchets) because it facinates me & my grandfather, a Master Craftsman, carpenter, farmer taught me when I was young to respect your tools, so when I see a tool that needs to be brought back to usable condition, I fall for it, clean it up,,,I've had tools in my house that I never knew what they were for. I usually give them away to someone who knows how to use them or I trade them for something I know how to use.
I would like to got up north to the woods, like Michigan or Canada & cut firewood for a while, just to learn & use some of the axes I have.
Strange,,,yes I know.

Not strange at all.
Like the hatchet. I vote for hickory on the handle.

That's a heck of a deal by the way. It looks like it has great balance. I bet when you have it in your hand it screams USE ME !Last edited by 10Pups; 10-28-2013 at 08:04 AM.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Believe that that's the one used by George Washington on the Cherry Tree. Head relaxed twice, handle once. But I'm sure that's the One!!
Great Buy(:-)
