River Monsters
Just in time for Halloween.
I have been watching River Monsters, a show on Animal Planet. The premise is the host, Jeremy Wade, travels around the world catching really big fish that have a reputation for causing human deaths. This show is different from most reality shows because it has educational elements AND the host actually knows what he is doing. Sensationalism and corniness are kept to a minimum. Last night I watched an episode where Wade was fishing for Bull Sharks in a South African river. The sharks were targeting fish being reeled in by sport fisherman, just a short distance from swimming areas.
This has me wanting to do some Muskellunge fishing.

This should be a clip from the Bull Shark episode. Sorry but it starts with a short commercial.Last edited by Leatherstockiings; 10-29-2013 at 08:22 PM. Reason: Trying to link video

Yes I've seen them all and what an excellent series it is, the one I enjoyed above the rest was the giant Tiger fish, while fishing on the mighty Congo river, what was most incredible about that episode was not only that amazing looking giant Tiger fish but the river itself, only the Amazon as more fresh water flowing through it but what was truly astounding the river was over 600ft deep in places.

I need to watch the Congo episode again. The Zambezi river clips were spectacular for the scenery, also. I would love to see some more of the worlds great rivers; I grew up on the Missouri River have fished tributaries of the Mississippi R.

Reminds me a little of something I read in a flyfishing book. Seems the author was flyfishing for muskie and said he used a 9 weight rod with a metal tippet of some kind. He also used a length of rope as a fly and a .45 - when asked about the .45 he said it was to shoot the muskie in the head before pulling it into the boat. That's the closest I'll get to river monsters.

I use a titanium leader when fishing for Muskies. I also would have leather gloves and the longest pliers I owned. The large hooks are just as dangerous as the fish's teeth.
