Thanked: 235I just taught myself long division
All through school I was in the veggie math class. There is a lot of math I misses out on, especially long division. At the school where I teach English I had asked a couple of math teachers if they could teach me long division. I came to the conclusion that long division was some kind of esoteric magic.
But today I thought to myself 'how hard could it be?' I looked it up online and it made sense. It was like someone turned on a light and I just got it.
When I told my wife she looked at me as if I had just said I learned how to tie my shoe laces today. At least I'm proud of myself.
Turns out math IS fun. The problem is math teachers.
Maybe tomorrow, long multiplication.

I had a similar revelation a few years back. Got out of the Navy and weny back to school to finish up my degree. Had to start back at college algebra and work up. I think it allowed me to fill in the gaps that I missed back in high school. I actually kind of enjoyed it. Ended up going all the way through Calc.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Just remember —> Does McDonalds Sell Dunkin Donuts
The first letter of each word is the step you must take, in the above order.
Does - Divide
McDonald - Multiply
Sell - Subtract
Dunkin Donuts - Drop Down (the next digit, in the ‘house’)
The ‘house’ refers to the sideways ‘L’ found in division ;-)
Any math questions? PM me - retired Special Ed. Teacher. I’d be glad to help. I’m pretty good at math.
It’s great you taught yourself! No small feat. Keep up the good work.bruseth

Thanked: 4Believe it or not, Youtube is a learning resource. If you cannot figure out how to get your kid to learn an academic skill, maybe "the man" on youtube, using a different technique OR presentation, will get the learning done.
in my experience.

Thanked: 1371Or if you're the university I withdrew from, you charge for credits, then tell the students to look up YouTube videos for their education, while your professors work on things more important than teaching.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
