Default Non Straight Razor 'Tarnish' Question! Help?

    Hi Gang!

One of the things that I’ve found remarkable about the membership is the diversity of our occupations, experience and knowledge and not only about straight razors but life itself!

Here’s my Non-Straight Razor Tarnish Question!

For Thanksgiving my son (Connor) drug out my father’s oldest sister’s meager sterling silver flatware and insisted that we use it for supper.

I know for a fact that it hadn’t been used for at least 25 years and of course it was tarnished; some more heavily than other.

Connor started polishing them like I would with a straight razor and that is with well crumpled newspaper and Mothers.

The going was a little slow but when he got to the area between the tines of the forks, it was very frustrating!!

I found a ‘solution’ online of using a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom of the kitchen sink and a few tablespoons of salt that would remove the tarnish from the silverware.

    It worked ‘so-so’!!

When I was in 6th grade my teacher had shown us a science project where the tarnish from the silver was IMMEDIATELY REMOVED and transferred to the aluminum!

Does anybody have a Better Idea/Solution???

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks Guys!!

These chemical solutions work however cleaning tarnish off and polishing are two different things. Get a quality Silver polish made specifically for silver and that is the way to go.

When it comes to silver I think Silvo is probably the oldest and the best. It can be found almost anywhere

I like wright's silver polish myself.

also try to find some felt cloth impregnated with zinc and store the silver in that the zinc slows down the tarnishing process. lots of old silver chests (stores) protected silver that way... as always oxygen is evil

    enjoy,
