I offered to put some scales/regrip it for my neighbor but want to see some pix of what it may have looked like so I can get it somewhat authentic looking. But, if it's seriously old there may not be any. I guess there's no way to know who made it too. Guess I'll wait a bit more days to see if anyone can point me in the right direction for more info before I start to get creative.

A reference I found for you

Argentine double-barrel smoothbore pistols? - THR

That should get you headed in the right direction, still searching for pics, if you search "Pinfire" you will find some results that will help with some Handle ideas..

I think Glen is right.. a "Garrucha" possibly Belgium made... if you remove the barrels you might find the proof marks.. Howdah pistols were typically large bore for defending elephant riders from tigers

why a double pistol? it seems that common folks particularly in south America were not allowed to own repeating pistols. you may want to be careful with it as there is a chance that it may not be legal to possess in your state.

here is a clip the pistol bit starts about 2:40

    enjoy,

Looks like .410 gauge to me or perhaps something obsolete.

Does the mechanism work, if so how does it work?

Edit; looks like you guys nailed it but I'm all in for "Pirate gun".

Thank you gents! I'd have to agree that this looks a lot like the Garrucha. The scales are shown clearly in the video so I now have something to work from if my neighbor still wants me to try to make some new scales. Not sure if he'll want it made "fire ready" or not but if so, I'd love to see how it does. If I do restore it I'll post some pix.

Glen and Syslight - thanks - not sure if my neighbor will want the closest replication of what he remembers as a kid or something cool I come up with but thanks for tracking this down - it'll give me lots to works with.

Lemur we haven't tried it out firing yet - the barrels look a bit thin at the ends though so I'd want to wait until it's all fixed up before loading any rounds in it. And yeah, I'm with you, too bad it's not a pirate gun!

    Sir,
an interesting center fire pistol, probable chambered for some obscure European small bore shot shell. Trigger arrangement same as a normal side by side double barrel shotgun, front trigger fires rh barrel, rear one the left barrel. Good little gun for rats, snakes and the odd prowler. If not Belgium made, might even be of local manufacture. Does not look like an expensive gun, but interesting particularly with its provenance.

    Cheers

Heelerau PS just looked up Garrucha and that looks to be about dead right.
