Angry Warning For Dept of Veterans Affairs ID Card Holders

Gentlemen, for those of you who carry a VA ID card you need to know that a QR code scanner on a cell phone will read the bar code on your card and reveal your full social security number. Kindly pass along to our brother Veterans. Protect you card This is disturbing at the least.

Same holds true of Credit cards that are chipped, you can buy metal cases that prevent scanning.

For years I have used one of these to protect my cards with strips on them. I made it from heavy duty aluminum foil, the same as you cook with, and the clear postal tape. It holds well , I redue it once a year. It takes about 15 minutes to make. It slides easily in & out of my wallet. I learned about it from the shoplifters years ago & today, that foil their shopping bags on the inside to beat out sensors that might be hidden in the items they steal.

I've looked at a few of the advertised metal cases & did not like the design, most had flaws that I did not trust.

None of the credit cards I carry nor my Kali drivers license will reveal my full social security number.

In reality no strips or chips have your SS #,but a chip on a Credit card can be scanned and used to make purchases online.

Keep in mind that a lot of identity theft does not require a social security number.

Thanks for the heads up on this... My Dad and Mother-in-law are both veterans, so I'll be sure to pass this along.
