Often it is in the garage that is linked to the house. The fumes enter the air ducts, cracks under the door.

Don't let your Co detector freeze
I also picked up two of these today. I should have looked closer at the package.
The operating range is 40' to 100'f. But can I let it freeze like in my camper or fish house which are the reason I bought 2.
I called the Kidde product support line and was informed that if the detectors freeze they will break and be useless. Some sort of liquid inside.
One open that I can use in my house I suppose but I will be returning the other!
I did a short search about this and probably was using the wrong terms but I wonder about what kind is normally used in campers.

I don't know what to use in cold weather.
Hell, if it drops to 40' here, I'm not worried about the detector, I'll already be froze to death in my Bermuda shorts & sandals.
If they don't take the other back, just drop it in a box to me & I'll give you something for it.

I didn't think that they would use some form of liquid in them. These must be using the Biomimetic type.
Maybe I need to use a Electrochemical type.
Something to think about anyway!
Around here we start thinking about wearing long sleeves around 40' but that is if you are just lounging around and not active.

My landlord owns an AC/heating company so they come around & check the furnace, stove & hot water heater usually annually.

Thanks for the reminder. I had meant to post a recent experience.
Recently he furnace shut down when it and a dehumidifier running together tripped the breaker. There was a bit of a burnt smell so I thought the furnace was acting up. We called a HVAC professional and had them check out the furnace, giving it a good going over. It turned out okay, except some of the house wiring is on the wrong breakers. The dehumidifier was probably the source of the burnt smell. We haven't used it since and haven't had any tripped breakers. We ordered monoxide detectors and installed them last week, thanks to this thread.
