    Default Black Eye Friday

This Friday is my favourite day of the year. The last Friday before Christmas when the factories and building sites finish for the Christmas holidays.
Traditionally men finish work early on that day and head straight to the pub. The night can often end with a good old fashioned bar room brawl, hence the black eye.
    Does this exist outside Ireland?

Well, I work in an autoparts factory and, knowing the guys on my line, they will head straight to the couch for endless hours of video games. The only thing getting punched will be the game controller. Since they will be in virtual shootouts for most of this season of peace and goodwill...I think I would prefer they get the black-eye in the pub. At least there is some mental and physical exercise involved in a brawl.

Not in my part of the woods. Most family men spend time with / get stuck with the family. There are a large percentage of single people who hit the bars pretty hard (at least I used to). We have a Navy base with a homported aircraft carrier, so plenty of young single men and women with more free money than sense (once again.... at least I was ).

The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

The downward spiral of modern man continues
In the true spirit of Christmas a black eye Friday brawl usually ends with the losers buying the winners a drink a the night continues on in that fashion until we're kicked out. Which in my local pub is usually around 7am on the Saturday

There are two days of the holiday period when a man can get away from the family for a bit. Those days are BEF and Boxing Day. With Boxing Day being a day of sport and gambling

I'm no fighter myself Ed. In fact I'm usually in bed by the time the fights break out. Can't take the daytime drinking lol

Provided I want an afternoon headache and feeling sleepy by about 7 pm then daytime drinking is ok. I had a few pints with lunch the other day which was nice, you don't get real ale on tap in oz, well not that I have found anyway. But if I had of had more than the 3 I had it would have been trouble.

I imagine real ale wouldn't work to well down there. They'd try and serve it at sub zero temperatures!

True, they don't understand what cellar temp means, they just assume english beer is warm with twigs.
