I read somewhere that your most emotional and fragile day of the week is the day of your birth, not the date but the day. Mine is Sunday. Tack ya jerked my strings! The slightest thing can get me going on a Sunday.

I know what you mean. The subject is one that works on my strings too. Those who did remember those who didn't.

This one breaks my heart too, especially since I have two sons.

Went to Normandy for the 60th anniversary. I saw 1,000's of headstones. Literally.

This headstone for some reason really struck me. Though I didn't know the man, I stood in front of it a while, a long while, left my Loonie (Canadian tradition) on top of the headstone and moved on.

Eventually when I got home I was going over the pictures with my mother-in-law. I tried to skim past the photo as it was kind of a "me thing." She insisted I go back. A tear ran down her face as she raised her hand to her mouth (fyi - this woman is not prone to emotional anything - read wasp).

Not only had she known his mother, but the boy too. He indeed was the end of the family line in that part of the world.

"They" say a man of faith should be able to part with anything worldly and move on knowing that there is no place for possessions in ones life. We after all, do not own anything.

I clearly haven't enough faith... but "a bunch of girly men" I would not label myself or anyone who has lost a friend or countryman to war.

An expression of honest emotion has no gender. We are as we are, we are what we are. Genetics, environment and inner beliefs are what drives us each to express our feelings, be it anger instead of tears, stoicism instead openness or tears instead of a stony face. I've been around long enough to finally feel comfortable in my own skin and if it is to be, I will cry openly in public, macho inclined men be damned.

Here's another lump in the throat story as reported by CBS and posted on The Blaze:

I went to France on a school trip a few decades ago, and visited one of these memorial places. All I can remember is peace and tranquility... and the fact that there were a couple more of the memorial places across the road. Same size.

That hit me. So many lost in what could amount to the blink of an eye... so many.

    Too many.

The scale of it blew my mind. Going to the beaches... you could see the wholesale slaughter.

It's cool that you went. I wish we all could. It moved me like not many places could or have.
