Oh man... that is awesome!
Wahahaha :rofl2: That's the best thing that I have seen in a while...
is there supposed to be a link or article? If so, its not showing on my browser.
Sorry - had to edit it a few times, can't get the pic to come out bigger, seems it won't resize...try now.
can barely see photo and can't read can I find it on the internet.
couldnt read the image, so googled it.
How is this awesome? Sure PETA is quite extreme at times, but they are just trying to stick up for animals that dont have a voice in the cruel world man has created or them.
I don't think they have any right to throw fake blood, but the bikers have less right to abuse them like this.
At least Phrank had the decency to leave "all commentary aside", how can the rest of you praise this or condone it?
I thought this was a site for gentleman. Your comments Darthlord and Badg3r are far from gentlemanly.
Well then my sincere apologies to you Andrew. No offense meant. BTW, you may want to read my comment again about "best thing I have seen in a while", not awesome, before you arrive at any opinion of me.
I commented on the picture and based the rest on my experience with PETA during which they were not just "extreme at times". I don't care to nor will I bother to look up the article and waste any more time with it. I'm sure that there are 2 sides to the story and that neither was completely right with whatever happened. Good day....
Gentlemen, please keep this civil and refrain from telling each other who is gentlemanly or not. Everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as it's kept civil without name calling. Thank you.
Dearest friends...
The lead of the article is PROBABLY the most important part
"The following is satire"
I appreciate your reply and accumen...
The "awesome" comment wasnt regarding your post, but another. I will Pm you badg3r rather than post here.
I do not want to come off as offensive, but I just don't think there's anything great about this event/circumstance. Its rather sad in my opinion. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I don't like to think that anyone on this site thinks its OK to bully a non profit organisation or its members trying to make the world a more humane place.
Don't believe everything you read on the web or in emails snopes.com: Activists Missing After Declaring 'War on Leather' at Motorcycle Rally .
Bob
Ungentlemanly? How so? Amusement is the natural reaction to the ludicrous, and the predicament of a man taped to a tree as a consequence for attempting to intimidate and shame those that even the full force of law and society cannot is, undeniably, ludicrous.
That said, I have no sympathy for them. While certainly, they are standing up for what they believe in aren't other people who engage in despicable and destructive acts also standing up for what they believe in such as a suicide bomber or, say, the Westboro Baptist Church? I would be amused if any of those folks -- in a nonlethal, collegiate prank sort of way -- received some comeuppance as well.
What it comes down to is that you feel some sympathy for their cause and therefore you feel their "comeuppance" was undeserved, yes? Or maybe you would feel the same if, instead of PETA, it were an extremist you disagreed with?
At any rate, I feel no shame in finding a man taped to a tree for attempting to intimidate and shame people amusing. He'll live and get over it and hopefully learn from it.
HOWEVER, my "awesome" comment was in interpreting a grainy picture. If anyone was harmed or -- heaven forbid -- killed in the incident then my position is not one of amusement.
I really don't know how anyone else feels about it but I like steak and bacon and chicken as well as vegies. I also like my Bike and MY CLOTHING WHAT EVER IT'S MADE OF I BOUGHT AND PAID FOR IT AND WOULD NOT LIKE IT RUINED BY ANYONE. now if that's not gentlemanly well it goes back to what a teacher told me years ago your business ends where mine begins. if peta doesn't like meat and leather products then I want force them on them. but it seams they want to force there beliefs on others. I really don't know what happened there but I know if someone throws things (fake blood etc.) on me or my bike well I probably do more than what those bikers did. now I don't want to offend anyone and I did find the article on the internet and read it. I may have missed it but I didn't see anything about broken bones or real blood being spilt...Peta got what they deserved. My way of thinking
Ok besides it being Satire which you continue to miss,,,
But let's read the article for what it was and how it was written for a second and assume it was true
"The organizer said a group of concerned animal rights activists, “growing tired of throwing fake blood and shouting profanities at older women wearing leather or fur coats,” decided to protest the annual motorcycle club event “in a hope to show them our outrage at their wanton use of leather in their clothing and motor bike seats.”
“In fact,” said the organizer, “motorcycle gangs are one of the biggest abusers of wearing leather, and we decided it was high time that we let them know that we disagree with them using it, ergo, they should stop.”
According to witnesses, protesters arrived at the event in a vintage 1960′s era Volkswagen van and began to pelt the gang members with balloons filled with red colored water, simulating blood, and shouting “you’re murderers” to passersby. This, evidently, is when the brouhaha began."
That part in the red, would in the real world be Assault, and if this were true, then "Ya gets what you deserve" sorry but you misread two things first it was satire and second the bikers were assaulted in the fake story...
Sorry I can't get it to post larger...I may not have written anything, but the ROTFLMAO icon kind of speaks for itself...it's satire, it's supposed to be funny, the humor being in that, as the Stranger said in the Big Lebowski, "Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes, well, he eats you." And in this case, pun intended, the bear ate the PETA protesters, who, all good intentions aside, have been known, to put it simply, to p$ss people off.
At least I now know satire is a lost art form.
Bob
Yes Bobh it is. Can't even poke fun at a tree hugged either! Although this picture has him kinda "tree hugging". By the way in real life ,glen is right these PETA people have committed crimes when you assault and destroy others property ,, not a very nice thing to do ,, and in real life if done to this biker , they wouldn't have gotten off so easy. Tc
...and these are probably the same people who rage against the machine at corporate culture while holding their iPhones, texting madly away on their computers while sucking free WiFi from their local Starbucks drinking that skinny Latte...you know, using all that non-corporate stuff...just like rules and manners, they only apply to others...dirty hipsters!
Phrank , thanks! I don't want to sound uncaring or harsh ,but in my line of work I deal with the hypocritical protesters all the time, " I drill for oil and gas" and they show up in their cars wearing rubber soled shoes after they left their homes that ewere heated and cooled by my work ,,I just don't get it when someone takes their opinions and shove them down others throats. Very confrontational to say the least , and with everything that is what they want to campaign for! How about spending time making sure all children are fed? But I could go on. And someone will think I'm a mean nasty man , even though I've never forced my beliefs on them. Hey on the other hand why not protest all you guys up north who have all the great Wade and Butchers !!!!! Just kidding. Tc
I personally think they got off lucky. If they were throwing stuff at the bikers, they had all rights to stop the assault by what ever means it took...the rest, well that's a matter of opinion. What did happen is that the bikers taught them a valuable lesson: Protesting a biker rally may not be of their best interest...
I think it's important to note that no PETA members or hipsters were harmed in the writing of this post, they have all returned safely to their parents basements.
I think that if PETA were to throw balloons filled with fake blood at the bikers I know, they would consider themselves very lucky to be taped to a tree. Not even exaggerating.
I believe this forum is full of gentlemen, and gentlemen also have an obligation to stand up for what they believe. If it was your wife or child they just hit with paint and you let that go then maybe that's your opinion, but a man does not accept disrespect or assault, else he is not a man , and as a side note ( remember this was not real "satire" ) but in this situation that response was mild compared to what would have really happened so lighten up, Andrew . Like I said earlier in this thread, this biker would have made sure he couldn't never do it again , so if that makes me less a gentleman than your definition ,so be it , but I am a man with honor and I give respect where respect is due ,not to a bunch of activists willing to assault innocent people at their leisure time , uninvited Tc
Funny how the word "bullying" seems to come up so often now. Are we all so hypersensitive that we cant see who started this mess? I for one consider myself a fair man but i really see the irony when one intends to pi$$ others off, he ends up pi$$ed on :)
Being a "gentleman" does not mean you will not 'drop the gloves" it simply means you do it with proper consideration.
Unfortunate the PETA members involved did not think this through
Just sayin
Mike
Did any of you guys read Glenn's and others' posts that this was a satire? (To be honest, I would probably disagree with Glenn on most political issues, but he does his homework!). Does that even matter anymore in the 24/7 media outrage machine?
No matter how many times I gently refer her to snopes and ask her to check these things, my own mother sends me crap like this all the time: somebody peed on a flag, desecrated an apple pie, wore the wrong lapel pin (or, yikes, none at all!), whatever, you've all seen 'em, and they're almost all made-up crap. I will refrain from sharing what I think about the underlying sociology behind most of them because it would probably offend a great many of you, and this post already sounds condescending enough.:D
But it just seems that a LOT of people on both sides of the political spectrum nowadays are just out shopping for something to be offended by, and I'd like to think we on SRP are bigger than that. No offense to your OP, Phrank. This is more a swipe at a general trend in society than it is at you personally. We've all fallen for sketchy internet stories at times, myself included.
Funny, we did a staff development this week on evaluating websites, and these sites were used as examples:
Save The Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus
Dog Island Free Forever
Y'all have fun. It's just the internet.
Thanks :)
I hate seeing it too regardless of Political side
I just last night had to explain to my less then diligent Righty friends on FB that a story about an American Flag in NM was being written a very certain way just to illicit a very specific response from them, and to quit sharing it...
Google (et al) truly is a fantastic source of info one only has to research a few minutes to find multiple sides of just about every "Fact" :p
Jeez remember when finding one simple factoid and the proof of it meant a day at the library and a notepad filled with references :rofl2: now it takes seconds
Yeah, but the DOWNside of Google and the information overload on the internet is that so much of it is crap that the facts are getting harder and harder to parse. Try to teach research skills to seniors who believe everything they see on the internet. Trust me, it's getting harder and harder every year. I now have a whole laundry list of banned topics: gun control (sound familiar?), ALL conspiracy theories-I just can't, abortion, etc., etc. I'm not sure that the internet, for its incredible power to inform, is not rapidly taking us towards the "Idiocracy" in the movie of the same name.
I knew this was fictional, "satire" so to speak, posted it as a bit of humor for a laugh.
Like you, my Mother sends me stuff all the time, to her continued embarrassment...I as well have warned her. Her latest was the image of the reflected mountains, that only occur once a year, perfectly reflect the Buddha or something. When one of her friends told her this was BS and to stop sending her this crap...she got it...haha...so yes, know what you mean.
Nonetheless, the thought behind this I found funny and somewhat poetic, as this year, in attempting to take my son to the Remembrance ceremony held at St. James, where the actual horse guard comes in full dress uniform, and many veterans attend, had to be cancelled due to the Occupy protesters, who turned public land into their own swamp, several rapes occurred, drug overdoses, and theft, yet there they all were, protesting the man, with their iPhones, laptops, designer label clothes etc., having a party, yelling at people, preventing others from access to the area, spray painting the church, causing quite a substantial amount of $$'s in damage, and stealing from local business's while at the same time preventing these business's from operating normally.
So yes, I knew the original post was fictional, meant as a laugh, but AFAIK, since we've gone down this wormhole, in many way's it seems to have struck a chord, that many, including myself, feel represents some kind of poetic justice. That many are fed up with what many perceive as a segment imposing their values on others, breaking the law and causing damage to public properly, and having no consequences, or more to the point, expecting no consequences.
Those vets, from WWII and Korea, for many, that may have been there last year to see the magnificent horse parade and following ceremonies, my son and I couldn't go, and for what? Why?
So fictional humor, yes, the premise behind the poetic justice of being duct taped to a tree for being an a$$hole - perfect!
Yeah, I should have known the guy with the Einstein avatar wouldn't fall for such, but plenty of others did/do/will.
Were I "shopping for something to be offended by" as you stated in your initial response (the one you called condescending), this statement alone might do it by the apparent implication that we all fell for it. :rofl2:
Anyhow, I would like to thank Phrank. :tu This thread has proven highly entertaining to say the least. I bet that you never imagined that it would take us this far into the wormhole. Well done sir, it has been a roller coaster and I am sure that the ride is far from over. Now where is my stick to poke this beehive with.....
Ah!
Yer a funny guy Phrank
Hook, Line and sinker
I think Phrank was just trying to draw me out of the shadows since I've not been hanging out in this part of the forums foe a while.
