    Default Decisions

So far I've acquired 6 Wade and Butchers of different sizes an I Barber one H & J W King and 3 George Wosten? and son 2 Bengals 2 Henkel's 1 Bismarck and 7-8 more I can't remember right now. the problem is do keep the ones that I can handle or should I say shave well with and sell the rest or just keep them for looks. I have one Boker red injun that I use every time I trim my stash. I know it stays but 1 of the wade and butchers gives a razor rash every time I use it but it's really good looking. now I have already found new homes for the ones I bought at antique stores to learn or should I say practice honing. I was wondering what would the folks here at the forum do or did when faced with my dilemma. I keep my razors in the gun safe . My wife doesn't have the combination so she doesn't know the extent of my RAD and with the guns ammo and coins i'm running outa room. Any thoughts

i've kind of got the same dilemma myself. running out of room in my razor box too. i have three that are shave ready and prefer the two that are 3/4 hollow or near wedge. don't really like my Dubl duck goldedge as well. gonna learn to hone on the others eventually. having a hard time thinking of getting rid of any of them even if i don't use them. what to do.

Now I do love the wade and butchers and I keep looking at them on eBay. if I let a razor go I'll just have get another. I have a 6/8 and 7/8 round point D Duck goldedge and they shave good. I only have 2 henckels one is a platinum and the other is a barbers notch with a smile 5/8 and they shave good. I really think its the chase. looking for and obtaining cleaning honing shaving then looking a gain. at any rate I have had a fun in the game and that's what counts.

I think you have some tuff choices to make here. Expand (bigger safe) or sell. My rack holds 13 razors (don't ask), once it's full I usually part ways with one or two but always have more to take it's place. This only happens after a few satisfactory shaves with the new one. I don't have a safe, I have boxes...small discreet boxes ;P

I have to be careful what I get tired of and part with. The day comes when I forgot I sold it, look for it because I want to use it, look at it ........ then I remember and kick myself. Worst case scenario I end up buying another.

I'm in the process of thinning the heard right now. I would never sell any of my Ducks and my regular rotation will stay intact but I have bunches of great pieces I simply never use so I can't see hanging on to them.

I too am in the same boat. In the early days I wanted to shave with all of them, pick my favorites and then get rid of the rest. I have shaved with a bunch, haven't been able to pick a favorite, but have to many to have as a regular rotation. We should figure out how not to flood the market and cause drastic price drops. Draw numbers and take turns or something. LOL

I too want to shave with them all at least 3-4 times to find out if I like them. the trouble is I only shave 1-2 times a week now that I'm retired. It takes a long time and you kind of forget either due to the time between the shaves or just being a little older you know retired. I do know I like the way the heaver razors feel and the ones with a smile don't poke holes in me if my angle is a little off. I think the barber razors and the ones with a slight smile were made for us older gentlemen. What I do know is I really like the looks of those kind of blades.

Man... Only you can answer that lol!!

My plan was to always get a collection going, and when I figured out the 7 I liked most, to ship them off to Glen and have them all rescaled and create a 7 day set of sorts. Partially or wholely funded from the sale of all the excess.

Thing is, I have "payed it forward" by giving some of my razors to others (great feeling), I have broken a few being creative, and have built display cases for much of the rest of the overload to addorn my den.

To make matters worse, now i find myself digging into those on display for a little change here and again - only complicating making finding the 7 I want to keep. Worse still, my honing has seemingly leaped forward, and some of those blades I thought couldn't shave, shave great!!

I don't know how far into this hobby you are, but I am only about three years in and I can honesty say I am still learning too much to be definitive about anything at this point!! Arg!

Hold on to your stuff for a while until you really know what you want out of your collection.

That's my story and two cents.
