Why I always remain standing straight for 20-30 minutes after I wake up
Why I always remain standing straight for 20-30 minutes after I wake up and get out of bed ....... works well for me for years now ....Apparently it takes about an hour or so for the fluid to drain out once you get up, hence the suggestion for waiting an hour before exercising. However a good warm up can supposedly help speed up this process"
"Bottom line is that you should never do any kind of exercise during the first hour after waking up. Here’s why: when you’re lying horizontally for hours, like when you’re sleeping, your back has no compressive loading. As a result, water fills back into your discs to nourish them. That’s the nightly hydration.
Now imagine your discs are water balloons. If they’re half full and you push one side, the water will move around and return when you let go. But if they’re full of water, they can burst when you push. Well this is exactly what can happen to your spine if you do any kind of heavy bending first thing in the morning.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

interesting !! never heard that ...
at work we would get out of bed at the hotel get dressed and go out to the truck and throw stacks of cones to the other truck to be prepared to work after breakfast , so 12 cones per stack at 10-12lb per cone , bending over grabbing a stack and tossing 4 ft or so to the next truck ..... hhhmmmm maybe a after breakfast thing from now on ...

In my younger days, as a structural steel erector, I had back injuries that left me with one herniated and two bulging discs in my lower back. Eventually got to the point where I had to get out of the business and find something else to do. A very dark cloud that had a silver lining. I'm probably alive today because of it.
Rolling out of bed in the morning was the worst time for me. No one told me about the remain standing bit.It was something I figured out for myself. I've been doing it religiously for years now and it works. I notice the time when I get up and watch the clock while I make coffee and what have you. I'll stay standing 20 to 30 minutes and let the fluid be compressed out of my discs before sitting at this rotten box that eats too much time.

Hmm, I don't know Jimmy. It sounds like an old iron workers tale to me. I doubt anything enters or leaves your disks. You can do inversion therapy and over time (meaning months) the position can help the body improve things if your disks aren't in bad shape (like mine are) and over time you can loose the liquid gel stuff in them but I never heard of water or fluid getting in there. Next trip to the spinal dudes I'll ask them about it though.

Thanked: 603I stand to reason.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.
