Six years is a pretty long stay for a military man. I guess part of what makes it a good or bad move is the proximity to family and recreation. I would melt in Arizona. I hear it is a good spot for a winter home. Make the best of your new adventure, I'm hoping it winds up being a hoot.

When I was in "this man's Army", the saying went like this: The two best duty stations you'll ever have are the one you're going to, and the one you're coming from.

Have a safe and easy PCS, and smooth shaving!

You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

with the exception of ft Drum, Campbell is the closest station to home.

I am sad that I will miss the Mid MO meet-up this year, always had a good time there. Although I am looking forward to finding some good climbing areas out there. Also I am losing my jump status so no more airborne for at least two years

Funny, the wife, kids and I had been in KS for 6 years when it looked like we might move to Arizona. I was super stoked about it after a bit of research on the state.

Now that said, family for me is already an airplane kind of endeavor, so an extra hour or two wasn't going to be a buz kill for me.

Moving sucks. Leaving friends and family behind - sucks. Change however is good for the soul. Enjoy Arizona knowing (if it helps) that at least one man on this forum is jealous of you .

Arizona is a beautiful state, and as they say, "It's a dry heat." But up North you've got Flagstaff and the San Francisco Peaks, the Canyon, all those national forests, elk, Sedona. Enjoy, and stay cool!

and as I say, "heat is heat" once it gets above a certain temp it just doesn't matter anymore it's all just hot lol. I will be about as far south as the state goes, so I will at least have Tucson kind of near by.
