Once, a neighbor of mine (a dentist; it helps to foreshadow sadistic tendencies ) had a garden containing strawberries. He never was able to eat any of the strawberries, however, as the chipmunks beat him to it. He offered my brothers a bounty for each chipmunk they shot, until he discovered a more effective method. Fill a five gallon bucket nearly to the top with water. Within an inch or so. Cover the surface of the water with birdseed, enough so that it looks like that is what the bucket is full of.
Place a ramp on the bucket.
I am told that chipmunks can swim quite well, by the way.
But not forever.
