I do not have to measure within hundred-thousands of an inch. Otherwise, my scrap pile would be silly! Too tight for me! I suppose people are what they are used to. Change is difficult if it is not encountered regularly. I have to measure all sorts of ways in my work. Standard is my way of life, but metric has always been injected. I do both as it is easier to do so! In working on razors, I prefer metric. Lazy!

I modified an archery sight yesterday. Vintage and made in the US. I thought the bolt fit my 8/32 tap fine so drilled and tapped another hole. OOOOPs it didn't fit. Is that dang thing Metric? Lucky I had another cap screw handy that I just had to shorten a bit!

Fortunately, most sizes I have encountered will go with a standard tap of the right pitch. They make a slight 'drag' and the standard bolt goes right in. Depends upon what you are doing, I suppose. Some metric pitches are the same, some are radically different.
My drawer of metric Heli-coils is ever-growing!

Heheh. I had a '73 Bonnie when they were new but I always wanted a '64.
