The Ads don't have it
Has anyone noticed the different ads/sponsers that have been appearing on the SRP pages? I think it is delightful to see manufacturers of the multi blade and disposable razors spending their ad money supporting our forum in the vain attempt and desire to woo us back to the ways of the wastrel. More power to their willingness to try. I will be the first to admit that there are occasions where the use of a multi blade razor is needed. I have used them for some rare situations. But I don't think that the true straight and DE/SE razor users are in anyway willing to return to that method.

Kind of like trying to sell an icebox to an Eskimo.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 1184How many lurkers may never give a straight a try ? How many will give up and turn to the dark side? SRP gets a lot more eyes than posts and some guys are just looking for something different or cheaper. Ads are bought because of who might see them and how many. May seem nuts to advertise here but think about it. I was never one to be swayed by an ad but they sometimes get me to thinking. In this case I smile and think to my self " yeah right" :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I hadn't noticed the ads -- the firewall blocks them.

Do you really think it wise to mock the hand that feeds? I, personally, am not a big fan of ads but they help to keep this site affordable mocking them just seems counter intuitive. I wouldn't have a problem with paying a fee to use this forum but think of how many would be turned off/away because of the cash outlay. Ads have their place even if they do not necessarily hit a specific target audience.

guitstik, advertising is like fishing. You cast your bait (the ads) and hope someone bites (the fish). The payers of the ads don't care if the target doesn't like them, they just spend more to increase the scope and hope the trolling produces their desired affect. ergo: the tobacco industry.

I personally wasn't mocking. Two weeks ago, I had ads (which I actually clicked through on occasion). I left the office for two weeks. Upon return, the ads are gone (as are youtube and a variety of other websites).
