"This thing that you've dedicated your life to....do you love it?" If that means anything to you, say so. The comedy show Maron isn't always the most deep but every now and then......

The two things that I've dedicated my life to are tightly intertwined: medicine and the U.S. Navy. I'm now retired from the Navy, and in sabbatical from medicine for the time being.

I loved being in the Navy, but to tell the truth, I got pretty fed up with my last command there toward the end. That, plus the knowledge that my health would preclude doing the things that I loved most (going to sea, flying), welll, I just wasn't loving it as much.

On the other hand, I still love working with patients...this sabbatical has shown me how much I miss practicing medicine...so I'll be returning to that in the near future.

Look at you. You're a lucky man. Ok so it's not all what you want. Who's life is? But it looks like you've made a go of it from here.

Cherishing every moment I spend with my soul mate & challenging ignorance wherever I encounter it. Everything else for me is window dressing.

That sounds like a game plan. Try to make the most of our time together as well.

Dedicating your life to good ribs is an excellent choice.
