I've heard about the Hillsborough disaster, sounds horrific. I'm not really a football guy, but I do feel like I'd be remiss if I didn't catch a match honestly.

Apparently there's a little town just outside of Sheffield, called Bakewell, and they're famous for making amazing and delicious tarts, so I'll be doing that. And the place where Last of the Summer Wine was filmed is right there as well, so I'll be walking through that little village.

I also plan to look through antique shops for any razors I can find. I don't have much optimism about that however.
Mr Kipling makes exceedingly good cakes. Though I suspect a proper Bakewell tart would be better than a Mr Kipling one, they are good though.

Maddafinga, I hope you stumble through some kind of Time Portal and find yourself in early 19th century Sheffield.

Castles? What we need here is a mediaeval historian... Oh, right.

BTW my bias is for non-restored, old castles. Ruins to me are fascinating because it gives windows into how the things were built. So for anyone familiar with Northumberland, Warkworth is my favourite castle of all, while Alnwick just annoys the hell out of me.

OK. So for castles in the immediate neighbourhood, I think Conisbrough is probably top of the list.

To be honest though, if castles are a thing you want to visit, North Wales will be just a couple of hours away. Conwy, Beaumaris, and Caernarfon are simply spectacular. And if you head north (which I highly recommend if possible) you'll find places like Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, as well as the aforementioned Warkworth and Alnwick. I know the far north quite well, so if you do head up there, feel free to hit me up for some suggestions.

There's a decent guide to castles here: CastleXplorer : Explore the castles of England, Scotland and Wales I suspect they mostly list the major ones, but it should be a good place to start.

In my humble opinion there are two places that must be visited in Yorkshire if you have an interest in historical sights. One is York, and the other is Fountains Abbey.

    Bon voyage!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

We're definitely going to York, no question about that, she decided that a while back. As far as castles, we're doing a couple of days in Edinburgh, where she goes for work a lot and has some family. So we'll be going through the two main ones there for sure, as well as Mary King's Close.

    I'll ask about Fountain's Abbey.
