Thanked: 25What happened to mineral spirits?
My last can was "odorless". It was milky and clotted up.
Now I'm looking for good old fashioned clear stinky mineral spirits, but seems it's not available.
Did I miss something ?
Was it condemned for not being fat free, or something?

Thanked: 1184Turpentine: Strong odor. One of the most compatible solvents for oil paint. Fast drying. Relatively aggressive in its solvent action. It is the distilled sap of a pine tree.
Odorless Mineral Spirits: Low, or no odor. Good, but not quite as compatible with oil paint as Turpentine. Slower drying than Turpentine. Not as aggresive a solvent as Turpentine. It is a distillation of petroleum.

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 4827If we are talking about the same thing, a great substitute is Naptha or camp fuel.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Many home stores do carry turpentine:
Klean-Strip QGT69 Turpentine Natural Quart
Here, Naptha would be lighter fluid and the camp fuel would be "White gas"/ 'Coleman' lamp fuel / unleaded gasoline.
Naptha was used with the first wood fillers and sometimes with paint.
White gas was used in the old style plumbers' torches and camp lanterns.
