Ebola

I'm living in Norway and i think the first case here has arrived. This disease scary me (maybe more than AIDS in the 80's and 90's) and i'm very concerned with the global security. They should stop all air trafic to the infected countries and test all passenger who came from a infected area.

Yes, they should have stopped all commercial air traffic to the effected countries in the first place. Everyone wanting to leave the effected countries should have to have successfully passed a 22 day quarantine under lock down before leaving. This was not done, I believe, for economic reasons - loss of profit.

Even now, people suspected of being exposed to Ebola are place under "self monitored" quarantine and not locked down in quarantine. So now you have instances of people possibly exposed to Ebola, who should know better, getting on planes for a little trip or in the case of a doctor going to a fast food outlet for some munchies. Gotta love people.

The underlying problem is that large entities - companies, religions, governments - have divided the tasks we do in our jobs to the point where these entities do wasteful, dehumanizing and stupid things. And the worker, more often that not, doesn't even have the faintest idea of what his work is going to be used for.

To make things even worse, as you pointed, there's a definite lack of ethics at the top of those large entities and empathy/compassion is often judged as a sign of weakness...

People today are supposed to be better educated and more informed that ever before. Hard to believe that after seeing this. It would be hilarious if the potential consequences were not so serious and deadly. The dumb as a bag of hammers gene is alive and well in the human gene pool.

this is exactely why you do not allow some one who was in a wreck/accident self diagnos their self .under stress the human mind narrows and simplifies its choices to prevent catonia .a high temperature is a major stresser and prevents advanced logic and reasoning from kicking in.in other words sick people make horrid doctors and decisions etc.rant rant rant.-heh.salute.

The bio weapons threat is not that realistic with viral weapons. The main reason is that it is impossible to control something like ebola. Particularly if it was weaponized (some airborne strain) and released on purpose for maximum initial spread before detection. It would go like wildfire not only in the west, but the east would share equally in the death toll. Chemical weapons, nukes (dirty or thermonuclear) are highly desired by the terrorists because their impact is very localized. Ebola as a weapon would not be targetable. It would be like setting off a pipebomb while you're in the same room.

Now, Anthrax otoh does make a good bioweapon because it is controllable. And yes, terrorists could use that. However, I don't they have either the resources or the desire for that particular mode of attack. Because if I can think of a canister of weaponized anthrax disguised as an air freshener in the restrooms of a major airport hub like dulles or new York, so can they.

Interestingly, the one big bioweapons attack that upset the US in recent history was not perpetrated by terrorist muslims, but one of their own, turning the US's own bioweapon against them. Of course the US is not supposed to have an operational bio weapons program, but we'll let that slide. :p
