Yeah. Being one living in a country bordering Russia ain't without concern these days. People through Eastern Europe are living under fear. So does my wife and about everyone i know. People still remember the last war and about every war we've had within a last 1000 years. How it feels to be threated in your own country.
As for me, serving in the military, i can say thank you Little Vova Putler for causing me not having to spend too many days at home with my family but being on alert at the territorial waters. Up to my neck.
I could say a lot about this ongoing Russian extreme nationalism but i better shut up. There are so many people i know as a friend in Russia. Or that is what i thought. They've all changed within a year a two. It's the massive propaganda there sems to be going now.
The problem with Russia is that they do not know where Russia ends and neighboring country starts. I'm sorry to say that we haven't seen the worst yet.
In Ukraine they are fighting for their right to choose the direction for their country. At the same time they are fighting for us. Their cause with the Euromaidan and all is ours too.
And meanwhile, in Sweden:

I think what is happening around the world these days represents the stage being set for the next World War.

Do not believe on WW but Europe forming into two camps. These days they are drawing the borders between east and west. And the same seems to be going in Asia.
There were times after Soviet collapse when USA was the one and only superpower (economical) on the world. Nowadays there's three: USA, EU and China.
Russia wants to isolate itself now. They have all the right to do so. On the end of that path is to became a vassal of China.
I'm so sorry for the Russian people. They should have deserved the better.Last edited by Sailor; 10-19-2014 at 11:10 PM.

Of course, these deals take a long time to prepare, so it's not a surprise to anybody, but the sanctions against Russia combined with the low oil and gas prices probably led to expediting the deal. The same as the gas deal they signed with China few months ago (and China is no pushover so they must have gotten everything they wanted out of it).
I have seen a little bit of Russia negotiate nuclear power plant deals and it is no fun for the other party when Russia holds all of the trump cards.
If anything I'd say Russia is being forced to accept less than what they are trying to extract and even if they are presenting it as a victory it most likely is a concession.
In many ways current Russia is worse than the Soviet Union because it is authoritarian and not totalitarian. But even though Putin is relatively young and healthy he can not live forever, so this system is not sustainable in the long term.

Thanked: 3227Yes, it was so good for the British economy that they had to take a loan out that was only repaid in 2006 in order to recover Anglo-American loan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . They also endured rationing of goods to some extent until 1954 WWII Rationing Timeline UK History . Must have been a real slice. Can't see it being much better in Germany and Japan. Almost seems to be worthwhile to endure 5 years of war and a further 9 or so to reap the economic rewards of a good all out war.
