Non impediti ratione cogitationis
Very very sad to hear today about the death of the great Tom Magliozzi, one half (Click) of Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers on NPR's show Car Talk. I defy anyone to show me two guys with better laughs than Tom and his brother Ray. Rest in peace Tommy, and thanks for the laughs.
This is one of my favourite moments from the show: Tom reading an article from The Onion:
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

That is a bummer. Sorry to hear it. I haven't listened in quite some time but I always enjoyed the banter, and the expertise, when I did listen.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I came late to the Car Talk game as it wasn't until about five years ago when I moved to a town across the St Lawrence from NY State that I picked up NPR. Have been a little hooked on these guys ever since. Even though they stopped making new shows a couple of years ago, it's always still worth a listen.

Wow - I listen to Car Talk on Saturdays. They are always on when I... anyway, I had no idea that they were that old. Just listening to the show for the past couple of years, I would never have guessed.
Man - I had no idea that the shows I was listening to were re-runs for that matter either!

Thanked: 3795I've been listening to them since the early 80's. Tommy and Ray are a true gift to the concept of joy. I was happy for them that they chose to retire, was concerned it related to Tommy's health, and felt sorry for myself that there would be no more new episodes of Car Talk.
I am grateful for every one of Tommy's laughs and jokes and even some of his car advice!

Yeah, I've been listening to the show for roughly the past decade and it's got to be one of the most loved ones on NPR. With 30 years of it even the current reruns are 'new'.
However, even they didn't know who is Click and who is Clack, but we all know for certain that neither of them would ever be caught driving like his brother, so best leave the Click-Clack unassigned

I just listened to their CD of the best stories. Having listened to them on Saturday for many years I do miss this show.
The "bets" of the callers were usually hilarious.

They let the cat out of the bag in a commencement speech at MIT in the late 90s.
EDIT: I only discovered this yesterday when watching some clips posted (I think) to the car talk blog. In the speech he read some letters from the president of MIT explaining why they could not speak at the ceremony. In the letters, Click and Clack were identified, and Tom's comment was "Now you know." He also introduced his theory of reverse reincarnation to the grads of MIT. In a nutshell he recognized that as happiness increased along with stupidity, and since the reward for a life well lived should be increased happiness, it follows that that reward should be to be reincarnated as a more stupid being. I.e. human -> dog -> cow -> worm ->grassLast edited by Cangooner; 11-04-2014 at 01:48 PM.

My Saturdays all started with a smile when Click & Clack were on. I don't think I ever missed a show.
One of my many favorite's of their close each week.
