it's not just that Jimmy. With modern technologies the rest of the world can be minutes away and minor players can wield serious problems for all. Though it might be fanciful to withdraw into a cocoon the world around us will not allow that.
During the start of WWll there was a substantial pacifist movmt in this country even after Pearl Harbor. Stop and think if we had not gotten involved back then. Germany would have overrun Europe and Japan all of East Asia and Germany would have developed nuclear weapons way ahead of us with missile technology. How long would it have been before a strengthened Germany and Japan attacked us? Hitler was not full of surprises. He said exactly what he wanted to do before the war and did exactly what he said.
A really wrong decision made at the wrong time can exact a heavy price tag down the road.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Yeah, I'm with that 100%. If it wasn't clear in my post, I am thankful that FDR asked congress for a declaration of war, and all that ensued thereafter. Throughout history one nation or another has tried to dominate the world. I don't see that ever changing, and if one nation is going to be the strongest, better us than any other. IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

As many here have stated, in their opinion, not much has changed in 10, 20, 50 or even 70 years.
Many people in Canada and countries all over the world share this feeling of things getting worse. I think a lot of it has to do with more information coming at you all the time as has been said. And the messages are most often negative.
But maybe another way to look at it is through another lens. If you decide that things are crap, I'll pretty much guarantee you they will be. But if you have an attitude that things change, and change sometimes isn't comfortable, but the same true values are there, and you look for the positive aspects of things, well, you can find those things too.
The United States of America, "Home of the Free and Land of the Brave", it's still there, hundreds of millions of people all over the world believe that about the USA, and millions come to your country for that reason and do find that dream.
I think there are values built into your Constitution, that while they may evolve, they will always define what it is to be "American". And I think the motto of the United States is still as strong and alive today in every American, regardless of current differences, this beautiful statement of Patriotism and unity, "E Pluribus Unum" - "Out of Many, One".

Thanked: 2027One Nation,America, needs to dominate it's own nation first and formost,we need to stop sending our steel,Lumber and cement to China.
We need those materials to rebuild the american Infrastructure.
The mideast has nothing to offer except sand,we can and should turn the entire area into a glass parking lot, could be done in a matter of minutes.
No more trillions of wasted money,no more ISIS,no more Al quida (SP) just get rid of that entire segment of the world.
A tad radical perhapsCAUTION

In a representative democracy as USA it's about voting and how well those who vote can think.
With respect to voting the latest results from last week showed over 90% reelection rate.
As far as thinking - wealth creation in 21st century is different than the one in 20th century which was different than in the 19th century, different from the 18th century...
The fact is that the 'middle class' jobs of the last generation where one could drive a forklift in a warehouse or punch tickets and have a house, pay for college for the kids, etc. those jobs are gone and are never coming back because they are now largely done by machines. Just like the jobs of picking cotton or hoeing the field by hand disappeared for good long time ago.
The unskilled immigrants have negative effect only on the unskilled americans who compete with them and in fact are beneficial to everybody in the top four quintiles of the income distribution.
Blaming them as the big problem is exactly the type of misplaced anger that enables the real problems to keep being ignored.
