Veterans Day 2014
Today 11/11 is Veterans Day in USA.
It was started by Woodrow Wilson in 1919 as Armistice day to commemorate the cease fire that began the process of ending WW1.
To all veterans - thank you for your service!
---
On this occasion we're also adding a new SRP badge "Veteran" . To receive it let us know when and where you have served.

I'm am a veteran. I can tell you the sacrifice is costly. Some have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The truth is each member of our armed services writes a blank check with no limit. The American people fill in the amount; as needed. If you know a veteran, find a way to bless him or her. If you know a veteran family that has paid the ultimate price, find a way to bless them!

Do we get a "veteran" tag if we're still active duty?

When I was in Afghanistan I worked in the trauma bay in Kandahar. I watched a lot of purple hearts be awarded. Some for funny stuff (bb's in the butt from an IED) and some for not so funny stuff. Of all the casualties we saw, this one still gets to me. I was in the operating room when time was called:

I served in the US Army from 1987-1992. My first duty assignment was with HHB 1/22FA (Later HHB 2/1FA) in Zirndorf , Germany. I Spent 2 months in Korea helping do refresher FO training with the Infantry Scouts there. My Second and final duty assignment was with HHB 3/29FA at Ft. Carson , Colorado.
I am proud to have served, and prouder yet of those still serving. So to my fellow Veterans and those still serving , I salute you. /SALUTESo I drive a station wagon , what of it ? ( www.lxforums.com )

Thank You Gugi!!
"Remembrance Day 11-11-19"
Armistice Day = 11th Hour of the 11 th day. End of WWI "The War to End all Wars"
It used to mean something, "Veterans' Day" a mourning for those who died in the struggles of our nation.
Now there are celebratory balls in various places; our homeless, maimed, battle fatigued are not invited to those.
May whatever higher power you believe in and/or your personal feelings, and we'd hope the general public's, bless those who have gone before and given of all they had. Their families need a blessing also and a lot more real help.
My wishes also extend to those and theirs who fought under different flags and paid the highest price!
I am a Vet and proud to have been. And very fortunate to be intact. I never saw combat and have a special blessing for those that have.Last edited by Geezer; 11-11-2014 at 03:19 PM.

I Served in Korea. 8/8 Field Artillery unit attached to the 2nd infantry division (2nd ID). My Father was a decorated WWII veteran and retired NCO of 28 years. When he died he got $250 and a head stone. We need to do better taking care and honoring our vets. The ones that died and paid the ultimate price and the ones who walk around carrying the war in their minds. What a sacrifice they all gave us and continue to give us. Respect and honor and thanks to both those that have served and those that are currently serving. Thanks to Guigi for this thread.

Most kind of you Gugi to provide this.
Early (april 66) in my tour. A combat assault headed for a Michelin plantation. Trying to keep up with the damn daily call sign changes. : )
