Thanked: 1936Ya, I'm going to have to upgrade in 2015 I believe...I will see how I can keep this ole dinosaur going though. This will make the computer geeks cringe...I try to get 5 years out of mine when I purchase one and this one is a little over three now.

Same with me, this beast is about that old, still runs well, but after seeing my son's Alien Ware top of the line gaming computer, it's time to upgrade....his system make some old games I have look like I've never played them before...stunning, high performance system, but not really needed unless you're into applications that require that type of graphic and CPU processing power.
And Wullie - just noticed you have an Assus, those are fantastic machines, basically an Alien Ware system, same performance for much less cost, that's probably going to be my next system as well - good choice.

Thanked: 884No more XP. I'm NOT a fan of WIN7 but ..
Frank, built a new system. 4G AMD 8core "Vishera" processor. 32G of RAM, 120 solid state drive, 1TB Seagate for real estate to store crap on.
I cheesed on the vid card. It's a lower end unit of what's available out there. I can upgrade later if I decide I was to run games. As it is, I don't mess with 'em enough to warrant that kind of $$.Member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, participant SE Asia War Games 1972-1973. The oath I swore has no statute of limitation.

Thanked: 1184OMG starting all over with buttons and settings, and bookmarks and ,,,I got to do the same thing soon, crap :<0(
I built this tower I am on almost 10 years ago. It will become a back up hopefully the 3rd quarter of this year. I swore to use it for 10 and I will have kept my promise by then. I used to get T2 speeds out it on a dsl business line. It's holding me back on some fun now though.
I am a big fan of AMD. They are waaay under rated. Just got to keep them cool.
Sounds like you got a winner Wullie.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 884This is my first AMD. Last one I built 9 years ago was still a hoss, but it was slagged with 32bit. It was a 3G P4 with a whopping 4G of RAM.
Stuff coming out nowadays isn't made to run that old stuff.
That old machine did a lot of work but it was time to retire.
This thing boots in 35 seconds. Nothing on that SSD but the OS and my mail handler.
Oh, it QUIET too. Got a case full of big fans running slow. The old machine sounded like a jet idling. LOL Was going to do water cooling but decided to try air to save some $$. LOTS of room in this big case and I can upgrade later if I want to.
Here's the short list.

Wullie , You neglected a pic of your keyboard. Oh.. by the way, I served in the USN about the same time as you. Was aboard the USS Bushnell AS 15 and the USS Patterson De 1061.
