I can understand your confusion. In the good old USA there are no illegals, only undocumented workers. Just as there are no longer any liberals in government, perish the thought. I have had kali D.L for 53 yrs, I have never gotten a notice,I cannot apply via mail or online at my age,They want to do a vision test.
And at 67 possibly a drivers test.
I could not go last week as I have to first get my SS ck so I can buy gas to get to the DMV and pay the $30 fee.

It has nothing to do with federal laws - the drivers licenses are state level business and California passed this bill

And citizenship wasn't federal matter in practice until the second half of the 1800s, but now is.

If US wants to become more like the rest of the world and require people to often prove their citizenship it's certainly possible, but it seems to me too many citizens find having to prove it to the government insulting and also too many people enjoy the benefits of cheap immigrant labor making it hard to prioritize the use of the US military for protecting the US borders instead of protecting US interests outside of them.

So with the current politics states like California have to decide whether it's better to keep punishing the illegal immigrants in the hope that they'll go away, or offer them drivers licenses in the hope that the roads will become safer than otherwise.

Clearly the american people didn't chose the other black guy for president, the one with the electric fence and real soldiers and real bullets on the border, so there are political realities that can't be wished away.

Neither of those is on the list of bullet points for qualification, but if you think you need a vision test and driving test that's a different story. I assumed those are the reason for the age requirement to be under 70, but I didn't read the application form.

Texas has online renewal too...

You can renew online in Kali also,BUT you have to do it within 60 days of expiration,am well over that.
No worrys, last time I renewed I was 5 yrs expired

What's the reason behind this policy? Why only in CAli? Is it a taste of what's coming in the states?

Funny thing. I have my license mailed to me every time it is about to expire. I have been to the DMV for tests and renewal maybe 2 times in the last 30 years. Class A lic. with medical card that I have to renew every 2 years. Maybe why they don't need to test me ? I got 1 once that expired in " 00". I am keeping that in my truck because it looks like it never expired :<0)

I had a thought the other day on this undocumented thing. (which is still illegal) If we kicked them all out in one week what would happen ?
First there are many things you would have to do yourself like mow your yard. For a little while anyway.
Next you would have to train your kids to mow the lawn like in the old days.
Then wages would go up, housing and rentals would drop so your kids could get their own lawn.
60% of HUD housing would be open for ? Where would all the money go that is paid out to the undocumented? Hmmm Vets benefits, Social Security ? Wouldn't need to pay much unemployment either.

We could never rock the economy like that though. Your politicians/puppets would never let that happen.

Back on track...Will this licensing make better drivers out of them and get them all insured ? That outcome is laughable.
