An update on The Lives of Others
I just read an email from my daughter in law Melinda. She gave me an early Birthday gift when she told me that their fund raising reached it's goal. This means that Abigail's service dog can now be selected and training started. It will take a year at which time my son and daughter in law and Abigail will travel back east for a 10 day intensive training with the dog. Even tho I stressed I wasn't soliciting funds I know there were a few SRP members that did donate and I want to thank them deeply for their compassion.

To avoid getting too maudlin I quote Tiny Tim, "God Bless Everyone"."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Service dogs are a wonderful reminder of the many different ways by which we heal, in spirit and in body. I have been involved with veterans health for most of my working life, and the contributions of our canine friends, as service dogs, as visitors to the Alzheimer's patients, as guide dogs and as companion dogs are amazing. Will continue to pray for Melinda and her new canine friend.

Haroldg48, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. But just a small correction, Melinda is my daughter in law and is a fine and fiesty defender of her brood of which Abigail is one of and who will be receiving the dog.
Small aside. That family has been, ever since my son married Melinda, a black cat family, and all the cats have been named after demons (go figure). I am going to watch with great interest when the dog is introduced into the family."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Yeah, even earlier here. Got my eyes propped open with toothpicks. They have a year to wait before Mr. Dog is introduced to his feline cousins. Demon names but loving personalities. I have a ferocious black cat stray that lives on my front porch. Ferocious till I put food down for him. I'd let him in the house but my middle aged half Siamese thinks she is head of the clan and won't allow another animal thru the door. Stray is appropriately named Mr. Lovey.
