Default Kids say the darndest things

Yesterday my family came over for my daughter's second birthday.

In the afternoon we were sitting outside, having cake.
Kato had gotten a 'Winny the Pooh' ball from my parents. My father hid it underneath his shirt and asked Kato where it was.

She looked at him, pointed at the ball and said there it is, there it is.
So my father lifted his shirt to drop the ball and put his shirt back.

Then Kato looked again at him, pointed at his small potbelly, and said. 'And now the other one too.'

At that point we all were
Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
To spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the Last Day

A colleague at work related a story about her kids to me which had me in stitches.

My colleague's husband has somewhat 'uptight' and posh parents, and one particular weekend they were coming over for Sunday lunch (we say Sunday Roast in the UK, but I gather a sunday 'roast' might have different connotations in the US!). Anyway, Mary was a little on edge with her in-laws' impending visit and she went to great lengths to prepare a sumptuous Sunday family meal. She dressed her two boys (6 and 4) up in their Sunday Best and asked them to be extra well-behaved since Nana and Grandpa were coming for lunch.

The in-laws arrived, lunch was served, and everything went very smoothly. In fact, the boys were good as gold. So much so that the in-laws complimented Mary and her husband on the boys' behaviour. At the end of lunch, the elder boy asked if they might be excused and get down from the table so they could go and play in their room upstairs. Mary was so proud and said of course they could, having asked so politely.

"Great!" says the older boy. "Come on William, last one upstairs is a WANKER!"
