It is unbelievable to me how lazy people can get when they rent (and I include myself in that from back when I rented. Once you phrase it as a purchase for THEM, rather than something for "the Owner", they will usually smarten up. Or, at least hopefully, their partner will smarten them up.

Hydrants are another one. We usually get hit pretty hard each winter, but this one's been insane. Either way, it's amazing how many people think the hydrant fairy is
coming to shovel out the hydrants. As a kid and into my adult years I shoveled out the hydrant nearest the house I grew up in. People have that "Why should I do
it?" attitude. Hmmm, because it's your belongings that are going to get destroyed in a fire, especially if there's a delay in us getting or running out of water.

    Sorry to get off topic.

Geezer in your next of the Woods I'd guess its lack of maintenance plus heavy use causing most of the carnage wouldn't you?

We Have people in my local that die during the winter (really is not that cold here tho)
Whats sad is they are usually poor, had thier utilitys shut off because they could not pay for them.
They use Charcoal or a cheap kerosene heater to provide some heat.

Do your hydrants have flags sticking up several feet? All the ones here do.

This is the first I have heard of people shoveling around a hydrant. Probably is a good idea. I will run the blower past ours next outing.
