Hockey
I hope I spelled the sports name correctly. At 65 I saw my first hockey game last night in Nashville TN. It was between the Predators and the Tampa Lightening. I was pleasantly surprised. I really knew nothing of the game. I never was into sports that much because they were boring and when I was young there wasn't time for sports we mostly worked when we were not in school and my farther was a hunter and fisherman when he wasn't working so I went with him when I had free time. In the winter when I was a teenager I would run a trap line. Now back to the game. It was interesting. Fast pace and there was 1 fight on the ice and a lot of pushing and tripping and hooking all the things that looked like fun. Kind of makes me wish I lived up north. The teams were pretty much evenly matched. It was a close game. The Predators won in the last seconds of overtime. Now unlike some sports they had a live band playing good music at the half time and other times they had entertainment when the plays were not playing. I really believe the wife and I will take in a few more of these games. Anyway folks remember we're never to old to enjoy new experiences.

Thanked: 4826You just can't beat a live game. I can't be bothered to watch sports on TV but any chance for a live game is great. I live in an area of Canada with no hockey, I know it sounds odd, but on the West Coast Islands it is too warm for ice and only the really big centers can afford to keep the ice happening, but don't get me started on that. I am glad you got to get out to see a game and I hope you get out to see more.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I'm off to watch my first live NHL game come Monday
I'm not a big hockey fan, but I simply must go and see the only Norwegian in NHL while I have the chance.
(Mats Zuccarello in NY Rangers)
Both the Mrs and I look forward to it!Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I know I'll draw some fire for this but I can't find a better sport to watch than hockey. rhensley, I'm very glad to hear that you liked the game. I hope you become a big fan and become as unhealthy in your obsession with the game as I am. Birnando, I hope you enjoy the game and too find a new love for the game.

It must be the excitement and the fact that there was never a duel moment. The physical condition those guys are in or have to be in I really think that (and this is my own opinion) the hockey players are in better condition than other sports players. I probably wouldn't turn the TV on to watch a game of any kind but I probably will go see another game in person. It's something about being there. It seems to make you a part of it. A lot of fun. I drove 120 miles there and the same back. I didn't get tired at all.

Zuccarello scored a decent goal against the Leafs last night.
Congrats on enjoying the game. It really is a great sport. That being said, the PLAYOFFS are when you will see the best quality hockey being played. Not as much of the miscellaneous nonsense or fighting going on because the goons are left on the bench while the skill players play more minutes. Games are too important to give away power play opportunities. Intensity is ratcheted up to 11.
GO HAWKS !!!
Also, in regard to your comments about conditioning, I remember an article from the mid 90s that talked about Doug Gilmour and the physical toll the game would take on his body. He would, according to the article lose approximately 10-15 lbs of weight during a full season, simply because he could not eat and exercise enough to maintain the muscle mass he started the year with, due to the exertions of playing 20-25 minutes a game in the NHL.Last edited by Orville; 02-11-2015 at 08:15 PM.

Thanked: 8Hockey is probably my favourite sport. My son plays in a little kids league - and even games at that level are fun to watch!
Agreed on the comments above that the live game is something special - particularly in hockey-centric cities.
The live-band thing is probably a product of Nashville, though. Up here, they have lady playing an organ.
The battle in NY last night was pretty intense, with plenty of scoring, so you got lucky with that one. Enjoy your new found hobby!
