Default For those who remember Lawrence Welk...

For those who remember Lawrence Welk, I used to be forced to watch this show all the time, my wife just saw this old clip.

Now, do you think Lawrence Welk and the crowd they were signing to at the time understood knew what they were singing, "One Toke Over the Line" was about. I bet they thought it was an old spiritual??

    Hilarious - from 1971!!!!

    edited to add:

"Some radio stations refused to play this song because of the drug references, but not everyone got this meaning. In 1971 the song was performed on the Lawrence Welk Show by a wholesome looking couple Gail Farrell and Dick Dale, who clearly had NO clue what a toke was. Welk, at the conclusion of the performance of the song, remarked, without any hint of humor, "there you've heard a modern spiritual by Gail and Dale." Brewer & Shipley heard about the performance and searched for the footage, but didn't see it until the clip showed up on YouTube in 2007."

When I'm flipping channels, I'll often stop there to torture my wife. Then I'll give her the choice of that or something just as bad.

This is kind of like the school here there song is White Rabbit. I think that's the song title. It was a Alice and wonder land 60's song. One pill makes you small and one pill makes you tall. you know.

By the way it was Welk's birthday just a few days ago.
