Masters of the Universe
I was wondering, is anyone else here into Masters of the Univers?
In my youth I was an avid collector of MOTU. I used to have a large collection of figures, some of the beasts, most of the action figures, castle grayskull, battle bones, and some other things I'm probably forgetting or can't remember the name of. When I got older and didn't play with them much anymore, I gave the entire lot away to the youngest kid of a single mother. Her other 3 kids all went to summer camps but he was too young and had to stay at home (no money to do anything else). My mother mentioned that the kid liked he-man so I thought that a big collection of MOTU stuff they couldn't afford to buy would brighten up his holiday to no end. I gave it all away and it did. I got a thank you letter he had dictated to his mom, who'd drawn it in pencil, after which he traced the letters in pen.
Anyway, recently I found a he-man forum online where I asked if there is official artwork of knives, because it would be cool to make a high quality replica (not just a showpiece). In the process, I showed my youngest daughter some online pictures to show her what I used to play with, and she immediately asked if I could get a couple of the more monster-y action figures. She is the one who also likes monsters and LOTR style movies. So now I am looking around for old MOTU characters. as it happens, this weekend there is a comic con in Antwerp where I am going to take her to I think. It would be cool if she ends up playing with the action figures that I loves in my youth!
And so I was wondering: is (or was) anyone else here into masters of the universe?Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Brings me back! I was also a Thunder Cats fan. The wife and I just had a kid and have been looking at cartoons for kids and both of us agree that the new ones blow. Would be great to find a place to get all the cartoons we grew up with.

Was a huge fan! A year ago or so I watched an episode with my kids, it was just too painful to watch.

Love it. Still do. For different reasons, though.
Per episode, try counting:
1) The number of times Prince Adam runs through a hallway in a pink shirt in what seems like only two frames for the entire motion
2) How many times that ends with Prince Adam faceplanting into a huge candle stand
3) How many times Skeletor "escapes" by simply running away
4) How many times Skeletor does a crappy somersault on the ground before running away
Also notice how Skeletor, as an evil master mind and bane to all of Eternia, only has three or so henchmen?
By the way, the movie is awesome. Wonderful 1980's cheese with Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Billy Barty as Gwildor and Frank Langella pulling off a Skeletor that is as brilliant and enjoyable as Max von Sydow's Emperor Ming the Merciless in the Flash Gordon movie. Which also happens to be insanely awesome.

Today I went to the Antwerp Con with my youngest daughter. We had an absolute blast!
We bought some smaller miscellaneous figures first. Then we bought a grayskull castle still in the box. It was one from the classics re-release so it was not too expensive. Then we bought a couple of MOTU figures she liked. I had to check them all to see if they could still stand. With many, the rubber bands in the legs start to fail and they can't stand anymore. I texted my brother to tell him I'd bought a boxed grayskull set, and he texted back: so, who wanted it more: you or her?
We spent a lot more time looking at things and people. It was awesome. There were also vintage motu sets in the box. Those were cool to look at, but too expensive
Eventually, we went back to the MOTU seller, and bought a couple more figures. At the end I also noticed one seller had the vintage grayskull and snake mountain. We looked at it and I told my daughter that those would be very expensive. She asked how much and I told her I 'd ask. The guy says '10 euros' and I say 'what?' He explained that everything was missing. It was just the empty shell with a 1st floor and showed it. I told him that indeed, it was just the shell and I told him that I wasn't interested then. At that point he tells me to please take it with me for just 5 euros because otherwise he'd have to take it back with him. I asked my daughter if she wanted it bad enough to carry it all the way to the car, and that was that. 2nd castle for 5 bucks.
And then I noticed snake mountain again. That was 40 euros because it was missing only a couple of pieces.
I thought about it, but decided to decline.
Because at that point we had a number of figures, 2 large castles, and I just could not think of any sort of explanation that my wife would accept as reasonable for arriving back at the car (she went to the movies with our oldest) with 3 castles.
Of course, I bought a set with battle cat, panthor, heman, skeletor, and several other action figures on a local second hand website so those are also coming in. But with a bit of luck that will fly under the radar.
Anyway, the con was an absolute blast, we both had a great time and we'll definitely go back next year!
The one downside was that my youngest wouldn't go to sleep because she got frightened by a chucky doll.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
