    Default Memorial Day 2015

    I am taking this moment to thank those who gave everything for this Nation. Those who gave allegiance and their lives to aid this country in time of great need.
    Memorial Day was a Civil War remembrance which has become a day, hopefully, for acknowledgement of what a cost war has been.
    Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

    I took a little time to break out some family documents;
    My great grandmother's father, Charles Carter Davis entered the Civil War with his oldest sons, Josiah, Andrew & Charlie Davis. Charles Carter Davis, the father, was wounded at Shiloh, took pneumonia & died shortly later. Josiah & Andrew were killed & buried at Vicksburg. Charlie survived & returned home after the war. They fought for the Confederacy.

    They say half of life is just showing up. To those who did more than show up. Raise a glass to the salt of the earth. My relatives that served made it back. Many didn't. Let's remember the true cost of that burger or dog were grilling tomorrow.

    We have cemeteries full of war dead and they are only increasing. The future guarantees this. Maybe instead of just remembering we should think about how to put an end to it.

    Wouldn't it be ironic if kings fought their own battles

    Sounds nice. Let's just come up with an idea that will end all the wars. Sounds good, but it's not very realistic. Memorial Day isn't about wars or why they're fought though. It's about the individuals that have sacrificed in service of this country. We've got 364 other days for politics.
