The Belgian 2.5 Euro coin. too funny not to share
I didn't even know it, but I found it hilarious.
Belgium wanted to mint a 2 Euro commemorative coin for the battle at waterloo, which was vetoed by the French. Then Belgium used an obscure loophole in the European law to mint a 2.5 Euro coin to commemorate the worst French defeat in history. This sounds like a typical Belgian solution allright Especially with the current government.
I care nothing for the politics of the situation, but this was just too funny not to share.

Too funny for words. Both my sons have been to Belgium, at different times, for the bike races. Caused one son to build a specialty trailer and sell fries at a bunch of local bike races for a number of years. Even took his 10 year old daughter with him to Belgium. Both had a heck of a good time.

I don't know why the French are so ticked off . . . all they need to do to settle the score is mint a coin celebrating one of their military victor . . .
okay, I see your point.

Belgians - a despised people? The Dutch don't like Belgians because they laugh too much and too loudly, eat too well and know how to make great beer(s). The French? They carry their dirty little secret around everywhere they go, don't they? They won't admit the Belgians invented "French" fries. Und the Germans - they can't stand Belgians have a higher percentage of lighted motorways then they do.
I'm good with the Belgies. They know how to mint money AND they know good mint chocolate. Love the Waterloo 2.50."We'll talk, if you like. I'll tell you right out, I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."

Which is quite ironic, as most Belgians are 10.35 times less annoying than most Dutch people. That is not my opinion, but a clinical fact.
Note that I'm saying that as a Dutch person. But then again, I'm from the south of The Netherlands, laugh a lot loudly, eat well and drink (well, drank) great (relatively) local beers, as well as Belgian beers. So what do I know.

Make 70000 €2.50 coins to be sold for €6 a piece - brilliant!
In other news on Dec 17 Belgium is scheduled to issue a coin to commemorate 150 years from the ascension to the throne of its greatest philanthropist, Leopold II. It will be made out of rubber and will feature the outline of the Free State of Congo.

Yeah... Laugh about it...
We minted a commemorative coin for our Butcher King in 2007, and gave him a statue as well.
